Joan can not conceive of life without art. She has been involved with the arts for well over 40 years. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute in New York City, her Masters in Art from C. W. Post University and has taken additional classes at Montclair State University in New Jersey, specializing in Raku Pottery. Joan received the honor of being one of only twenty candidates in the country selected as a fellow for the “Summer 6” at Skidmore College in 1992 in the prestigious ceramic and pottery program. Joan taught High School Art on Long Island for 36 years helping many students pursue Art and continue on to careers in creative fields.
Since moving to Wanaque, Joan has started teaching weekly art classes in her community and continues to volunteer in a local elementary school. As the Curator of three shows in the Wanaque Reserve, she supervised the presentation of over sixty artists and their work. Joan is currently in love with lampworking; making handmade glass for sculptural and ornamental mixed media pieces. One of her pieces was also selected for The Emily Harvey Gallery in NYC in September 2009. The Art Association of Rutherford, 64th juried show in October, 2011 presented Joan an award in photography. She had a one person Art show in Pompton Lakes in 2011 which was well received. In addition to multiple local art shows, she recently received 3rd place in the Clifton Association of Artists for her “Fragile Wings” showing at Meadowlands Environmental Center. Joan continues to work at and share her love of art through new explorations of clay, paint, glass and most recently photography.
